The Morelense Museum of Popular Art (MMAPO) is currently one of the most important and outstanding in Morelos and at the national level, since it is a point of reference and meeting for the popular art of the state and the entire Mexican Republic, opening its doors to the artisans and artists who are dedicated to this type of art.
The MMAPO is a space for temporary exhibitions, such as the now traditional Piece of the Month and exhibitions that bring us closer to the work of talented and renowned master craftsmen.
Likewise, within its facilities, there is a point of sale where various pieces made by hands from Morelos of various sizes, techniques, materials and uses are exhibited and commercialized, which allows the works to be acquired by the general public. who visits the museum, with the aim of generating a profit for the artisans.
This space opened its doors in 2013 and has undoubtedly been essential to disseminate and support the work of great artisans. In it we can find traditional pottery from the communities of Cuentepec, Temixco; Telixtac, Axochiapan and Tlayacapan, the Magical Town of Morelos, a potter par excellence.
There are also hand-woven textile pieces with ancestral techniques, in fibers and natural dyes from the indigenous municipality of Hueyapan and its multi-awarded and recognized group of Gabaneras, which offer in this space rebozos, overcoats, scarves, backpacks, quexquémilt, table runners, foot bed, bags and purses.
Of course, you cannot miss the traditional cardboard, which offers us endless figures such as bulls, masks, catrinas, deaths, skulls and piñatas made by artisans from Atlatlahucan, Ayala, Cuernavaca, Jojutla, Temixco and Zacualpan de Amilpas.
Likewise, it is possible to acquire articles woven with natural fibers, such as traditional hats, chiquihuites, baskets, lamps, baskets, mats, rugs and palm miniature, created by artisans from indigenous communities throughout the state; as well as traditional maracas and güiros from Huajintlán, in Amacuzac, and scale pieces from Cuexcomates made in Chalcatzingo, municipality of Jantetelco.
Undoubtedly, the exhibitions and the MMAPO store have become a point of interest for visitors who carry out cultural tourism in the main attractions offered by the Historic Center of Cuernavaca.
Following hygiene protocols and attending to the epidemiological traffic light, the MMAPO has access sanitary filters, and is open to the public from Thursday to Sunday, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., on Hidalgo street number 239 in the center of Cuernavaca.
