Athletes are known to be very superstitious. Professional wrestlers are no exception—many of them wear talismans that they believe bring them good luck or even protect them. They can take the traditional form of pendants, pieces of clothing or be more unusual, such as tattoos, colors or even body parts. The eXtra.cz editors took a look at the talismans of the MMA wrestlers of the Oktagon organization.
The young MMA talent from Wallachia, Matěj Daněk, wears an unusual rosary made of silver metal with a Christian cross on the end. Unlike traditional rosaries, in addition to its supernatural power, it is undoubtedly also practical thanks to its flimsiness and small, narrow processing.
To Georgian “Sniper” Amiran Gogoladze he obviously doesn’t worry too much about practicality, his beads are clearly visible on his neck. One of the pair of pendants also has the shape of a Christian cross.
Pink has green
Miroslav “Inkvizitor” Brož is one of the biggest showmen and heartthrobs in the organization. Brož’s talisman is closely connected to the wrestler’s body – literally. He has a rosary tattooed on his chest. The competition for the most practical rosary thus recognizes its winner in the Inquisitor.
Polish champion Robert Bryczek wears his beads on his left wrist. Red and black balls completes it with a bracelet with a small leather strap that connects it.
Alex Lohoré, who will face Czech five-time champion David Kozma on Saturday evening, is protected by a pendant around the neck with the inscription “Dakiliaking”, which is the French’s nickname and, among other things, his nick na Instagram. There is also a royal crown, depicted both on the pendant and right on the wrestler’s head. It has the form of a cap with gold metal ornaments on the sides and top.
“Pink Panther” David Kozma is famous for his love of bright and unmistakable color. He likes her so much that he even wears her in his hair. His pink hairstyle is Kozmo’s trademark, which he often accessorizes with other pink accessories – for example, sunglasses.
The Czech “Terminator” Karlos Vémola wears a pendant with his initials – “KTV” as a talisman. The letters in the form of silver metal are set in an octagon. As revealed by the co-founder and owner of the organization Ondřej Novotný, Vémola considers his UFC starting sweatshirt to be his greatest talisman. But he was without her at the Friday weigh-in before the fight with Patrik Kincle.
