MLS: New York City FC distances itself from the standings

New York City FC have placed themselves in good shape to secure their playoff ticket in the near future with a 3-1 win over Inter Miami FC on Saturday.

With several formations in action in the East during the day, the New York formation temporarily rose to third position with a harvest of 50 points. He mostly moved away at this time six points from CF Montreal who was in action a little later against the New York Red Bulls.

With this setback, Miami can not hope to climb to the seventh rank and is thus excluded from the race for the playoffs. Valentin Castellanos was once again illustrated for New York with two goals and an assist. He thus brought his total to 18 goals this season.

The first chance to score came from Miami, but Gonzalo Higuain saw his strike held back by goalie Sean Johnson. Castellanos paid for this lack of opportunism with a superb strike from a distance that foiled John McCarthy.

Higuain got another chance to level the score, but it was his teammate Nicolas Figal who rocked the strings for Inter Miami in the 55th minute.

Except that Castellanos broke the deadlock five minutes later and in the 83rd minute Talles Magno scored the insurance goal.

Toronto steals points against Atlanta

Toronto FC deprived Atlanta United of three valuable points with a 1-1 draw. Atlanta joins Orlando City with 47 points in the standings, four more than CF Montreal in sixth place.

A blunder by Quentin Westberg caused Toronto to fall behind by a goal in the 15th minute of play. He juggled the ball into the box which led to Luiz Araujo’s goal.

Missed chances for Atlanta came to haunt them late in the game. In the 88th minute, Jordan Perruzza leveled the score with his first career MLS goal.
