80 players updated
Shortly before the start of the new MLS season, Transfermarkt.us revised the market values of 80 players. The focus was on the newcomers and the youth players who made the leap into the first team, as well as the draft picks. The most famous names among the updated players are LA Galaxy newcomer Kévin Cabral (photo) and Atlanta United defender Alan Franco.
After the departure of attacker Cristian Pavón, there was a large gap on the left wing LA Galaxys. This should now close Cabral. The 21-year-old Frenchman moved from Valenciennes FC to California in early April for € 5.3 million. As a result, the market value of the tricky attacker rose by 150 percent from EUR 1.8 million to EUR 4.5 million.
Another player whose market value has increased as a result of a higher transfer fee is Inter Miami’s Gregore. England legend David Beckham’s club paid EC Bahia 4 million euros for the services of the 27-year-old Brazilian. Its market value rose from 990,000 to 2.5 million euros. Gregore’s compatriot and former teammate Thiago Andrade, on the other hand, received his first market value. The 20-year-old Brazilian talent moved from Bahia’s youth to New York City FC for 1.6 million euros. Its first market value is one million euros.
Vancouver Whitecaps: Caio Alexandre & Caicedo steigen
Another Brazilian with a plus in market value is Caio Alexandre. The central midfielder is the second most expensive addition in the history of the Vancouver Whitecaps ($ 4 million). Its market value rose from 1.5 million to 3.5 million euros. Déiber Caicedo, which the Whitecaps had cost almost 2.3 million euros, rose to 2 million euros in the course of the update.
Another club that had its main focus on South Americans in this transfer window is Atlanta United FC. The “Five Stripes” signed Gabriel Heinze as a trainer at the beginning of the year. Under the leadership of the Argentine, among others, his compatriots Franco Ibarra and Santiago Sosa were committed. The market value of Ibarra was increased to 2.5 million euros (+1.5 million euros). Sosa’s share, however, stagnated. Atlanta brought in 19-year-old Erik López as back-up for striker Josef Martínez, who is returning after a year off injury. The Paraguayan moved from Olimpia Asunción to Georgia for the equivalent of 3.4 million euros. Its market value improved to 2.5 million euros.
Transfer below market value: Franco, Acosta and Pochettino with minus
Apart from some increases in market value, some players also lost value. Alan Franco, another Argentine newcomer to Atlanta, fell from a previous 4 million to 3 million euros. The reason for the downward adjustment was a transfer fee, which was well below the market value at the time. The same fate befell FC Cincinnati’s Luciano Acosta (from 4 million to 3 million euros), Austin FC’s Tomás Pochettino (from 5.3 million to 4 million euros) and Claudio Bravo (Portland Timbers; from 2, 4 million to 2 million euros).
