MLB: Red Sox Pitcher refuses to play: ‘They can’t force us’

Much has been said recently about MLB’s plans to start the 2020 season once and for all, after the success that different foreign leagues such as South Korea or Taiwan have had after resuming their respective activities. However, unlike in those countries, Covid-19 is not yet fully contained in the United States and there are still high rates of infection.
There are even states where contrary to the recommendations of doctors and epidemiologists, they began to open economies and end social distancing measures, something that some players do not like at all, like Collin McHugh of the Red Sox, who has told Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com that like him, there are many players who do not want to risk and play, no matter how safe the MLB plan is:
First of all, I am a father and a husband. There are many people in the league who have pre-existing life-threatening conditions like diabetes, cardiac arrhythmias, etc. You look at the technical bodies of the teams and there are many people over 65 years old and when you talk about the risks, there are those who sincerely have to think well before taking the risk of doing so. In the situation we are in, MLB cannot force us to play.

According to information from ESPN’s Jeff Passan, MLB will present a formal plan to start the 2020 season to players the following week, with tentative dates being June for Spring Training 2.0 and July 4 as the date to give the starting flag. with Opening Day.
