Weird things can happen at MLB Spring Training 2021, right?

The Saturday’s game between the San Francisco Giants and Cleveland Indians ended in a very strange way, as both teams played the last half inning of the game without umpires to sanction the game.

The Giants, who served as the home team, had a 5-4 lead in the middle of the ninth inning, a situation in which traditionally the game would have ended. But both teams agreed to play the full nine innings to give some pitchers some work.

The umpires left the field and Cleveland catcher Beau Taylor was in charge of scoring balls and strikes.

The slate operations staff in the park, as well as the people in charge of running play-by-play action on the MLB platform, struggled to keep track of that last chance on offense. In the end, everything ended up erasing and the Giants won 5-4.
