George Springer and Bo Bichette are showing encouraging signs in training camp as the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 on Saturday.
Springer put the ball to safety on one occasion in two at-bat appearances. For his part, Bichette produced a run with a double and he also had another hit and a walk in the game.
Steven Matz conceded just one point in five innings of work at the Jays mound. He allowed five hits while striking out six batters.
Bryce Harper produced the Phillies’ lone run in the fourth inning with a double.
Toro responds present
Quebecer Abraham Toro answered the call when the Houston Astros needed him in a 5-2 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals.
Toro replaced Yuli Gurriel at the first cushion in the sixth inning. He only had one turn at bat in the ninth inning, but he got the ball safe with a single.
The Quebecer has thus increased his batting average to .300 since the start of training camp. At the Cardinals, Nolan Arenado was shut out in three appearances at the plate.
