MLB game recap: Mariners not ready to lose yet

Sunday, Jul 17, 2022. 6:20 PM

The Mariners enter the All-Star Game hiatus with a new record in MLB history. A 6-2 win over the Rangers on Sunday extended the team’s winning streak to 14 games, the longest streak for a team at the All-Star break.

Two other teams in history had made it to the break with a streak of at least 10 wins (Reds in 1975 and Tigers in 1935). Seattle also tied for the longest winning streak this season, a mark that was held by the Braves and their 14 straight wins in June.

After seeing Marcus Semien open the scoring for Texas in the 3rd inning, the Mariners offered the reply in the next inning. Cal Raleigh hit the 13th long ball of his season to give Seattle a 2-1 lead.

Unknowingly, Raleigh set the tone for an unanswerable six-point streak. Ty France homered in the 5th inning to make it 3-1, then hits by Julio Rodriguez and France in the 7th inning allowed Seattle to increase their lead to five runs.

Corey Seager drove in with a single in the 7th inning, but the Rangers were unable to come back and tie the game afterwards.

Starting pitcher Chris Flexen allowed four hits and a run in three and two-thirds innings of work. The victory goes to the record of Ryan Borucki (2-0). On the mound for the Rangers, the loss goes to Glenn Otto, who gave up five hits and three runs in six innings of work.

The Mariners, who are sweeping the series against Texas, have now won their last eight series.
