One of Major League’s most electrifying young players served one of the most memorable performances of his young career on Friday night at Petco Park in San Diego.
Fernando Tatis Jr. hit home runs in each of his first three times at the plate, in a game with the San Diego Padres against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
With his 23rd, 24th, and 25th long balls, made in the first, second and fourth innings, the Padres shortstop joined Vladimir Guerrero Jr., of the Toronto Blue Jays, who had become a few hours earlier the first player of MLB to hit the 25 bomb plateau this year.
Tatis added a single to his presence at the next plate to boost his batting average to .294.
It wasn’t until the end of the eighth inning, when he came down to the plate for the fifth time in the evening, that a D-backs pitcher was able to put him out, on a slapped ground. plumb towards shortstop Nick Ahmed.
Guerrero pulled off his 25th slap of the season in his 268th at-bat, while compatriot Tatis did so in his 214th appearance, having missed several games early in the schedule.
The Padres (46-32) finally won the game by a score of 11 to 5. Arizona, for its part, suffered a 56th loss in 77 outings.
