At 5:10 p.m. yesterday, January 9, the e-mail of the chairman of the BSP – Sofia and our group in SOS Ivan Takov received an email with an invitation from the mayor Vasil Terziev and the chairman of the PP-DB-SS group in SOS Boris Bonev for a meeting today at 11:00 a.m. to discuss their “Management and Reform Plan” in the Metropolitan Municipality. This plan was sent to us with the invitation. In it, they propose a rotating presidency of the SOS for one year – three presidents for 4 months each.
We will not participate in today’s organized meeting. We have repeatedly stated our position and understanding of how the Metropolitan Municipal Council should function to colleagues from PP-DB-SS, as well as to other political groups. All of them are aware that decisions in our party are not made unilaterally, nor from today to tomorrow. Therefore, we cannot participate in a meeting that is organized from today to tomorrow and a document was sent to us at the last moment, in the development of which we did not participate. We refuse to be a front or a universal excuse for the inept management actions of PP-DB and GERB representatives in SOS.
But we are sincerely surprised by the behavior of PP-DB. With their actions, they support and serve GERB. For months we have listened to their claims that they have enormous management potential and expertise, but since the first days we have witnessed daily failures in all areas of city management. They constantly declared that they had a ready-made team of many professionals and experts to take over the management of the city immediately after the elections, and at the moment, already three months ago, Mayor Terziev still has not officially announced his entire team. And some of the already appointed persons are quite unconvincing in terms of biography and expertise for the positions they occupy. Worse, they are unconvincing in their actions as well.
The reason for the irresponsible behavior of the GERB group in the municipality is clear – they do not want the truth about their management to come to light. They do not want their failures in the long-term management of the Metropolitan Municipality to be shown. And since yesterday we were once again accused of behind-the-scenes negotiations and agreements, of preparing a “red wedding”, we clearly state that this is another GERB speculation. Apparently, GERB is insisting that PP-DB-SS be allowed to run the Metropolitan Municipality to hide their failures in long-term governance and to ensure that their vicious model will continue to exist. If they like each other, let them take each other. We are not going to be officiating at their wedding at an expense.
The PP-DB is once again lying to the voters with an apparent desire to find a way out of the crisis. We behaved responsibly the first time, we proposed working management solutions in the interest of the people of Sofia. Three days later, they crossed one of our red lines – historical and ancestral memory. Now they are making a second attempt, fictitious for the public, because they are proposing negotiations with the “right side of the right” – “Blue Sofia”, with the clear awareness that the Local Coalition group “BSP for Bulgaria” cannot participate in such negotiations. When you are not a winner, you need reason, dialogue, compromise and respect for political opponents.
BSP is the voice of reason in this municipal council. In principle and consistently, we will continue to protect the interests of the citizens of Sofia and defend our commitments from the campaign to support the ordinary citizen, preservation and development of municipal property and economy and social protection from the children to the elderly residents of the city.
