‘Apkkoojeong’, which was in the spotlight as Ma Dong-seok’s new film until its release, disappeared from the top box office with no entries.
The comedy film ‘Apkkoojeong’, in which Ma Dong-seok was in charge of planning and acting, and popular actors Jeong Kyung-ho and Oh Na-ra, was basically unsuccessful at the box office. Although it was not until the previous film ‘Criminal City 2’ (accumulated audience of about 12.69 million), which reached 10 million myths, was pushed off the line of about 560,000 (according to the Youngjin Committee on the 15th) , well below the breakeven point of 1.9 million.
The film, released on the 30th of last month, is a human comedy that tells the stories of people who have entered the beauty business. New films like ‘The Owl’ and ‘Avatar: Road of Water’ were also knocked out of the top 5 by the religious film ‘Birth’.
The number of daily visitors is 20,000.
The audience’s reaction is more somber. CJ CGV’s ‘Golden Egg’ rating, the current ratings, clocked in at 77%, the lowest among films currently showing. It received 6.3 (10 out of 10) and 2.1 (5 out of 5) respectively in film ratings from Naver and Watcha Pedia, a platform specializing in ratings. After the portal, it dropped to 5.1 (out of 10).
Ma Dong-seok, who is active on two axes, the pleasure of nuclear punches and Marvelly with comedy. However, in the case of ‘Apkkoojeong’, the contradiction of the character itself, loose plot, and overly mundane comedy elements have been interpreted as obstacles to box office success. The public’s expectations for Ma Dong-seok, which has become a brand in its own right, seem to be filled with disappointment this time around.
Unfortunately, leaving behind the glory of ‘Criminal City’, ‘Apkujeong’ is expected to leave in disgrace after failing to recoup its production costs.
Meanwhile, Ma Dong-seok has finished filming ‘Sin City 3’ and is currently in the midst of filming ‘Sin City 4’.
