Mixed Results and High Pressure: Sarrebourg Moselle Sud Handball’s Season Update

A few days before the opening of the season, next Wednesday (8 p.m.) at home against Dunkirk, in the Coupe de France, Sarrebourg Moselle Sud Handball made a final update which leaves a mixed taste, Friday evening in Clermont- en-Argonne (Meuse), against Grand Nancy (34-29 defeat, 15-15 at half-time).

“We had a decent match, while failing in the key moments. Especially at 28-27, when you make three balls in a row too easily. At this level, it does not forgive. So, of course, we can put forward mitigating circumstances. With the absences of Louis Despréaux, Sami Douchet and Julien Cadel, we played with only one left-hander and therefore often right-handers on the right, which, in the long run, is penalizing. But it would be a shame to hide completely behind this situation, ”sums up Arnaud Calbry, half fig, half grape.

It is true that this observation is recurrent. The Moselle team plays well overall, shows a very good state of mind but often weighs down the final result with mood swings that one day will have to be reduced to their simplest expression “I don’t have the statistics in the lead, but we must be at 17, 18 ball losses when we should be at 12, 13.

We can mention the youth of the workforce, the multiple changes in the workforce, but, in the end, we lack control in certain situations and this is today the priority area for progress. It requires individual and collective awareness, concentration at all times, rehearsal work under pressure of sequences in training, ”says the Sarrebourg coach.

“We will be under pressure throughout the season”

The preparation, which the Sarrebourg technical staff wanted to be harsh, will prove to be adequate. “Friday evening, we saw some tired bodies, it’s normal, we worked a lot during these almost five weeks. But it is a necessary step to exist in this championship which promises to be complicated for us. We know that we will be under pressure throughout the season, that no game will be easy, that we will have to fight every game. Our championship should not be that of Istres, Sélestat or Nancy, our last opponents, ”says Arnaud Calbry.

And to conclude: “We still have a test match on Wednesday against Dunkirk. A meeting that should allow us to make a final point and, in the process, to refine the final adjustments before the arrival of Besançon on September 9. Of course, we will go all out in the Coupe de France, but we must not hide our face, the Northerners do not play in the same category as us. However, there should be a show for this gala match. »
