Mixed reactions after well-intentioned action in Steenrijk, poverty-stricken

The villa of the Treffers family is located on the Beautiful Nel in Spaarndam. When they’re not on their watercraft, it’s on their dinghy to cast a rod. They owe the spacious location on the water to their very successful demolition company. The four children of Aad and Sabrina lack for nothing, and they give their lives a big nine.

Yet the money did not come and Aad and Sabrina had to work hard for it. “We’re not your standard rich bastards,” Sabrina laughs. Aad adds: “We are just people from the street and we have been fine. We were lucky and were able to build this up, but we are really just people of the people.”

In the pleasant working-class neighborhood in Groningen where Gre and her children live, they don’t give life a nine every day. Gre has had a difficult period and was in an unhappy relationship for years, which made her depressed. During that period she also lost her job as a cashier and they have been living on benefits ever since. Working is difficult because her 16-year-old son has a nice backpack and relies completely on her, so he can’t go to school. Working has become impossible for Gre, who has to live on only 80 euros a week.

The Treffers family would like to do something for the family and decide to collect scrap iron in the area, in order to earn some extra pocket money. But not everyone is happy with the action. Although the family does not mean any harm, many viewers on Twitter fall over Aad’s statements.

Rich, penniless can be seen every Wednesday at 8.30 pm on SBS6. Watch the first episode here back.
