Mixco dream of finals, beat Antigua GFC in semi-final first leg

Deportivo Mixco are keeping alive the dream of qualifying for the first final in history to try to win their first title in the National League. This is after defeating Antigua GFC by the narrowest of margins.

The match played at the Santo Domingo de Guzmán stadium, in the town of Mixco, was defined by a solitary goal from Paraguayan Roque Caballero.

The Guaraní striker streaked into the colonial area to divert the ball, following a long pass from Fernando Arce in the 42nd minute to make it 1-0.

The Mixco chicharroneros were able to widen the score because they created a good number of attacking plays. However, between their players’ poor goalkeeping and the saves of Antigua goalkeeper Braulio Linares, the cry for a goal was drowned out.

Linares was the hero of Antigua GFC when he visited Mixco, and De León the villain

Linares was desperate to stop Antigua GFC’s efforts on several occasions. He went out to play in his area to control aerial crosses and launched himself to save the shots that were going towards his goal.

However, the brightest play came in the second half, when he worked hard to get a shot from Mixco almost over the line.

At the end of the game, he took another of the brightest chances from Mixco striker Michael Moreira.

The second part of the series will be played this Saturday at 6:00 pm at the Pensativo stadium. Mixco only needs a draw to advance to the final; while Antigua is obliged to win the match.
