Mitsubishi Power Aero delivers important energy project in Mexico: RFP certification for commercial operation in 145 days

GLASTONBURY, Connecticut

Mitsubishi Power Aero LLC, a leading provider of global electrical power solutions, and Mitsubishi Power de Mexico, each subsidiary of Mitsubishi Power Americas, Inc., have brought in an accelerated all-inclusive contract for the installation and commissioning of five 30 megawatt FT8s® MOBILEPAC® aircraft engine-derived dual fuel system gas turbines for CFEnergia SA de CV (CFEN), a subsidiary of Mexico’s Federal Electricity Commission (CFE), to close. Located in Mexicali, Baja California, the project provides essential power just in time for the main season. A sixth gas turbine will be added at a later date to expand capacity and meet demand next summer.

Mitsubishi Power Aero has extensive experience in helping its customers meet their most pressing power generation needs by providing mobile generator equipment and in-house EPC expertise. The FT8 MOBILEPAC gas turbines are ideally suited for quick installation in order to cover the electricity demand in an emergency. With the additional electricity generated by the turbines, the people and businesses of Mexicali can rest assured that the energy supply is secure. In addition, Mexico is also striving to integrate temporary renewable energy sources, and these gas turbines will play an important role in flexible, reliable and mobile energy supply to improve the reliability and resilience of the electricity network.

“While Mexicali has sufficient capacity to meet the region’s electricity needs in most of the seasons, there is a high season electricity shortage that affects those who depend on a steady supply of electricity,” said Harsh Shah. Vice President of Sales and Business Development at Mitsubishi Power Aero. “The mobile power generation systems installed by Mitsubishi Power Aero will ensure the safety, reliability, quality and continuity in the Baja Electric system. The reliable black start capability of the MOBILEPAC units offers the ultimate safety net for electricity on demand, as soon as it is needed. ”

Raul Pereda, President and CEO of Mitsubishi Power Aero, commented, “We are very pleased that we have been able to secure the critical power supply for CFEnergia on such a tight schedule. The FT8® MOBILEPAC®-Turbines are important assets for Mexico. With a compact footprint, minimal site preparation and without a permanent foundation, CFE’s turbines can be moved to another location as required. With the additional MOBILEPAC units, CFE now operates one of the largest FT8 fleets in the world. Reliable operational performance and strong aftermarket service and support from Mitsubishi Power Aero were critical to this expansion. We deliver electricity to where the world needs it most. ”
