Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross: plug-in hybrid in 2021

MANY NEWS – In October, the house of three diamonds unveiled the 2021 edition of its midsize crossover, the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross, with important new looks and a new multimedia system (who to know more). This model will arrive on the Italian market from spring 2021 and will also be offered in the new version PHEV, that is hybrid with rechargeable batteries, of which the house has provided the first details.

THREE ENGINES – The hybrid system of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV is strictly derived from that of the older sister Outlander PHEV, therefore it is composed of the 128 HP 2.4 petrol and two electric motors: the 82 HP front one, which gives traction to the front wheels, and the 95 HP rear one, which turns the rear wheels. And so, thanks to the two electric motors, the Eclipse Cross PHEV offers all-wheel drive without the classic propshaft typical of 4×4. The electric motors are powered by the 13.8 kWh battery. Mitsubishi has not announced the overall system power, but it should be 224 hp.

AS A GENERATOR – The electronics of the hybrid system of the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross PHEV it is evolved, because it allows the driver to choose the mode that best suits the route and driving style: in EV Mode, the crossover uses electric motors and travels up to 57 km before discharging the battery; in Parallel Hybrid Mode, the hybrid system “mixes” the thrust of the three engines; and in Series Hybrid Mode, the car always makes the three engines work, but the 2.4 works as a real power generator and, when driving allows it, recharges the battery while the car is running. This feature is a rarity among plug-in hybrid systems; however, to charge it quickly, the battery must be connected to an external power outlet.
