A special event is being held this weekend by ONNED, which is hosting the youth conference of the European People’s Party in Athens. Dozens of youth representatives from 32 countries are participating in the conference. The theme of the conference is securing the future of Europe with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis who was welcomed by the president of the blue youth group Orfeas Georgiou, to be present as a keynote speaker, as BHMAtodotos informs us.
Europe is changing
During his speech, Kyriakos Mitsotakis referred to how much the image of Europe has changed, how young people face a completely different environment, while there was no shortage of “nails”. The Prime Minister emphasized the fact that the ND was re-elected because it succeeded in an area where others failed: to deliver on its promises and establish a relationship of trust with citizens. He even referred to the Draghi report which, as he said, will be the defining agenda for the next term of the Commission and that the successful or non-implementation of the recommendations it contains will judge the European Union in which the new generation will live. “We brought back to the country 300,000 Greeks from abroad,” said the Prime Minister.
The role of youth
Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ references to the future and the role of the youth had the ONNED in the foreground, saying that the ND has one of the most powerful youth groups in all of Europe and indeed that its timeless proposals became laws of the state after years, such as possibility of establishing non-state universities in Greece.
More active participation of young people in politics
The Prime Minister even pointed out the need for the more active participation of young people in politics and that it is the duty of the older generations to give opportunities to younger people, making a special mention of Pavlos Marinakis who, as he said, “was president of the youth and today is Deputy Minister and Government Representative”, BIMAtodotis concludes
