The Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis gave an interview to Bloomberg.
Climate change is here, I would like to make sure that Europe will offer more cooperation and more resources to countries at the forefront of climate change, Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized, among other things, in his interview with Bloomberg.
Major climate changes are occurring in Europe
At another point the prime minister said that “I have been following these meetings for several years and there seems to be a pattern if you like that repeats itself and in terms of the discussions, on the other hand, in Europe there seem to be significant changes regarding climate transformation and we all realize that these changes will have to be accelerated.
To help our people cope with natural disasters
»The same is happening in my country. We have realized this because of both the climate disasters we have had and the recent floods and climate disasters in Spain. So we should focus on the long-term mitigation of these difficulties and of course on helping our people to cope with climate disasters. So that’s why it needs funding. In other words, we are not going to help only poor countries to deal with the transformation, but also more mature economies to deal with the consequences[…]».
We will adapt to renewable energy sources
He further stated “[…] Europe decided to reduce energy consumption and in particular energy production from fossil fuels, to replace them by 12% with renewable energy sources. So we will adapt too. Of course there is also the loss of life. For us the loss of life is what counts most. And that’s exactly why we want more proactive measures to be taken to make sure that we’re using our water resources, our private resources, in the best possible way[…]».
