For some 24 hours now, Greece has been on standby for possible strikes against targets of Jewish interests.
The shift of foreign policy from the fixed position of equal distances in the Middle East and the complete alignment of the Mitsotakis government with the American and pro-Israeli policy is now clearly seen as affecting the country and putting Greece at risk by placing it in the zone of possible retaliation.
And this in addition to the inalienable rights of the Palestinians and the permanent (however abandoned) positions of the country: Greece officially “firmly supports the creation of an independent, viable, and democratic Palestinian state, which will coexist peacefully with Israel within internationally recognized borders, based on the pre-1967 line and with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international law and the relevant Resolutions of the UN”, as stated on the website of the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mitsotakis is playing with fire
Already in the last two years, the alarm bell had rung after two planned attacks against targets of Israeli interests in Athens were recorded.
- The first was him March 2023 when EYP and Mossad arrested two people of Pakistani origin who were allegedly preparing an attack on the Jewish synagogue in Monastiraki.
- The second – recently June 2024 with arson attacks against a hotel of Israeli interests in Monastiraki and also the synagogue in the same area.
Under the weight of the developments and especially after the assassination of the leader of Hamas Ismail Hamiya, the information states that there is already a warning to Athens about a possible attempt to hit or hit targets of Israeli interest in Greece.
But the assessments are also in this direction, given the collaboration of the Mitsotakis government on many levels with the Israeli authorities: in Defense matters, such as programs, armaments, exercises, partnerships and also entrepreneurship.

Besides, despite the meager rhetoric about Palestine, the shift in foreign policy is clear and blatantly in favor of the Israeli and NATO positions.
Greece is a possible target
According to information, the level of preparedness has also increased, while the “danger” signal to the country from centers abroad is also confirmed.
In practice, the lines of cooperation and the exchange of information are continuous, including Cyprus, which is closer to the region both geographically and “functionally”. And there have been attempted terrorist attacks with the most recent one in December 2023 and also the arrest of two Iranians who allegedly had relations with the Revolutionary Guards
