After the lockout at the glass company Youla in Egaleo, Attica another business is rolling down its shutters, this time in Northern Greece.

It’s about the paper industry Sonoco which operates in Thessaloniki and Kilkis as that is where the packaging unit and the paper mill are located.

It is questionable that Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis talks about development and investment when existing businesses are not protected.

As reported, the decision was made known to the employees immediately after three days of the 25thher March while a few months before the company was looking for workers for the packaging unit in Thessaloniki.

The result is that the approximately 30 workers at the packaging unit in Neochorouda, Thessaloniki, and the 55 workers at the factory in Stavrochori, Kilkis, will be out of a job.

According to information, the company is citing the increase in energy costs.

However, it is pointed out that the company, because it is energy-intensive, has invested about 3 million euros for the self-production of electricity, but according to sources, the DEDDEE it did not join the network due to “lack of network capacity”.

According to the schedule, the company will serve current orders and will close for good on May 31.

The company, which is a member of the American group Sonoco Alcore, which is based in South Carolina, was founded in 1899 and has more than 300 companies in 33 countries.
