The residents of El Campestre are still waiting for the Cartagena District to begin the mitigation works that they have been asking for for the neighborhood canal for more than three years. This is due to the fact that every day the erosion grows in the place and every time it rains this pluvial canal overflows, generating trauma and flooding in the sector.
The last thing that had been said about this project was that it had received a favorable opinion from the Ministry of Housing and that, according to the Secretary of Infrastructure, Luis Villadiego, they had to comply with some procedures requested by the ministry and then know what course these long-awaited works would take. Since the last days of June, when this information was released, there was silence from the Mayor’s Office of Cartagena and the national government, until a few days ago when the Vice Minister of Water and Basic Sanitation, José Luis Acero, assured that this project it will go to tender soon.
“Legalization of the agreement”
The Vice Minister of Water stated that the El Campestre canal project is part of the national government’s strategies for economic and social reactivation, prioritized along with five works with an investment of $ 85,981 million to benefit about 103 thousand people.
“Soon the construction of the mitigation phase will enter the tender: a 65-meter stretch of the El Campestre canal and drawer sewers over the Matute canal in the city of Cartagena, which has an item of $ 3,636 million,” he explained, adding that everything will be carried out in transparently through SECOP.
Regarding the day on which this tender would be published, the vice minister did not give an exact date, but assured that once the last procedures are completed, it will be reflected on the platform.

For his part, Luis Villadiego, Secretary of Infrastructure, assured that this project will be carried out through an agreement between the Ministry of Housing, the District and Findeter.
“After having completed all these procedures with the Ministry of Housing and obtaining the financial and technical approval of the project, we proceeded to the legalization part of the agreement. This basically consists of Findeter committing itself to allocate the resources and to carry out the process of contracting the work “, said Villadiego, adding that:” In this case only, the signature by Findeter is lacking, because the agreement already it has the signature of the Ministry of Housing and the District ”.
