Mistral – Eaux-Claires districts: the square of discord

FOCUS – The square in front of the socio-cultural space of the Plateau, located at the edge of the Mistral district and the Eaux-Claires district, must be redeveloped. The municipality wants to “debit” the place and plant trees to create an island of freshness. Problem: some residents blame the town hall for a lack of consultation around this renovation. The municipality ensures for its part that users have been consulted on this project.

“We are all the same in Grenoble, in a city or in its very essence, participation is a fundamental element, so sitting down on consultation is not possible! “, protests Bruno Ferrand. This inhabitant committed to the life of the Eaux-Claires district has not taken off since the announcement of the renovation of the square of the socio-cultural space of the Plateau, located at the edge of his district and the Mistral district.

The place in question is covered with a large concrete slab. During the urban renovation in the early 2000s, this square was designed as a new neighborhood heart. With, since 2018, a market that brings together some local producers.

But it is devoid of any tree. And the temperature is rising rapidly. ” One of the difficulties of this place is the terrible heat that reigns there, especially in summer », Explains Élisa Martin, first assistant to the City of Grenoble.

The redevelopment of the Plateau square should begin in early February 2021. This is indicated by a small sign hanging on a tree on the edge of the square.
