Two electric bicycles worth 1,200 euros, two city bikes for 360 euros, two traveler’s checks for 500 euros and 64 Z-cheques for 50 euros that can be used at local merchants: the municipality of Zemst had provided these prizes for winners of the scratch card promotion during the end of year period. But it soon became apparent that the last year-end promotion did not have 70 but 728 winners. Result: 29 people won an electric bicycle, 24 a city bicycle, three a travel voucher and no fewer than 672 a Z-cheque for 50 euros. “A painful mistake that costs us about 70,000 euros extra,” sighs Alderman of Local Economy Dominique Van Haesendonck (N-VA).
