Mission Artemis 1 Departs to the Moon One Day After the 77th Indonesian Independence Day

Tuesday, August 9, 2022 – 09:09 WIB

LIVE Techno – Mission of the Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Artemis 1, will return to the runway for the last time before a manned launch which is planned to be the first time a female astronaut has set foot on Moon.

Artemis 1 will travel about 4 miles (6.4 kilometers) from the Kennedy Space Center to the 39B launch complex, one day after Indonesia’s 77th Anniversary, which is August 18, 2022.

This launch will keep Artemis 1 on track to launch on a weeks-long unmanned voyage around the Moon.

Artemis 1 will test the Space Launch System (SLS) megarocket carrying the Orion spacecraft Jeff Bezos to ensure reliability before astronauts make similar trips in the next few years.

“The upcoming launch follows an intense and planned system certification for more than a decade. Our team has worked very hard, a very long time to get to this point,” said Artemis 1 Flight Director Rick LaBrode at NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston.

Artemis 1 will mark the first launch for SLS and the second for Orion to ever go into Earth orbit in 2014. If all goes to plan on August 29, SLS will roar through the atmosphere to reach orbit in just 8.5 minutes.

The rocket’s upper stage will then deploy Orion into a translunar injection orbit about 80 to 90 minutes after liftoff SpaceTuesday, August 9, 2022.
