Missing Cleo (4) played with toys when police stormed home

Australia was under the spell of the search for the girl for weeks. She disappeared from a tent overnight 19 days ago while camping.

The toddler was found in the bedroom of a house on Wednesday after a major search.

Detective Rod Wilde, who led the investigation into the disappearance, told Australian media that the suspect had to be taken to hospital for injuries sustained in his cell. He would have injured himself, but is otherwise easily approachable, says Wilde.

Physically OK

The 36-year-old man is currently being questioned by the police, it is still unclear what exactly he is being charged with. Wilde says they have an idea what happened, but he won’t go into details.

More than two weeks after she went missing, an investigation led police to a house in the town of Carnarvon, just minutes from where Cleo lives with her family.

Investigations have not yet been completed. At first glance, the girl appeared to be physically fine when she was found. According to a detective involved in the storming of the suspect’s house, Cleo was at the time of the raid. playing with toys.

In a short video of the police it could already be seen that the girl is carried away in the arms of a police officer. “We’re taking you to your mom and dad. Is that all right?”, another policeman asked Cleo, who nodded.

One of the officers who rescued her went to visit the family later in the day. “It was heartwarming to see her playing in the garden and being with her parents. I was amazed that she adjusted so quickly and seemed happy,” said the man. Cleo’s mother, Ellie, wrote on Instagram that “our family is complete again.”
