Angelica Gaitan, 46, was found unconscious and suffering from hypothermia off the coast of Colombia.
He was found by fisherman Rolando Visbal Lux and a friend who sailed 1.9 km from the city of Puerto, Colombia, at around 6:00 am on Saturday last week. (Read: US F-35B stealth fighter jet collides with mid-air tanker)
His first words after being saved were; “I was born again, God doesn’t want me to die.”
He was taken ashore where local residents treated him before he was taken to hospital.
Angelica was later reunited with her family when she told police investigators what had happened to her since her disappearance two years ago.
During his time at sea, he remained afloat for eight hours while the sharks surrounded him, when he sometimes lost consciousness.
But then with time running out, he had good luck when he was found by a fisherman who initially thought he was a log. Angelica waved her hand to call for help which convinced the fisherman that what she saw was a human.
