Missing 13 players – then Bayern Munich lost the lead and lost

It was a wounded Bayern Munich who received Borussia Mönchengladbach in the Bundesliga on Friday night. The German big club missed a total of 13 players due to injuries and confirmed covid-19. In addition, a couple of players have left to play in the African Championships.

From the start, however, there was goal scorer Robert Lewandowski, and the Bayern forward only needed 18 minutes to find the net. Lewandowski got time with the ball and knocked in 1-0 and his 20th league goal of the season.

Mönchengladbach got back into the match, and in just a few minutes the guests turned the event around. Joshua Kimmich failed with a clearance in his own penalty area whereupon the ball ended up in front of the feet of Florian Neuhaus who pulled on the volley and equalized.

Barely five minutes later, Mönchengladbach completed the turnaround when Stefan Lainer reached the top of a corner and nodded in 1-2, a result that stood up to the halftime break.

Bayern Munich chased an equalizer in the second half but had a hard time breaking down Borussia Mönchengladbach’s defense which held tight and made sure to secure a landslide victory at the Allianz Arena.

Despite the loss, Bayern Munich remains the league leader in the Bundesliga, nine points ahead of Borussia Dortmund.
