Several rockets were fired this morning at the airport in the Afghan capital Kabul. Some were intercepted by a missile defense system, a US official told Reuters news agency. It is not yet known who launched them.
It would be five missiles, but it is still unclear whether the defense system has shot them all down. A witness told AP news agency that three explosions were heard. There were no casualties, according to initial reports.

There were already indications that fighters of the terrorist group IS-K would attack the airport with missiles. After warnings about this, the US installed missile defense systems.
US forces are evacuating the last US civilians and Afghans at risk now that the Taliban is in power. According to plan, the Americans will withdraw completely from the city within the next 24 hours. The White House said in a statement that the evacuations are continuing.
