Korsør (dpa) – A missile on a military ship in the port of Korsør in Denmark has led to blockages in air and sea traffic. The Danish Defense Ministry said the rocket launcher was activated on board the frigate “Niels Juel” and cannot currently be turned off.
The police and the Danish shipping authority were informed. The crews of ships moving towards the danger zone have been warned and asked to wait until the problem is resolved. The airspace in this area is currently closed, the ministry said.
According to the Ministry of Defense, the danger area is estimated to be five to seven kilometers from the Korsør naval base and at an altitude of around 1,000 meters above the water in a southerly direction.
The technical problem occurred during a mandatory test during which the so-called booster was activated, the ministry said. Specialists are on the way to solving the problem. As long as the booster is not deactivated, there is a risk that the rocket will be fired and fly a few kilometers, it said.
