Missile Attack on Civilian Ship in Ukraine: Impact on International Trade

The missile hit a civilian ship registered in Liberia, the army said, adding that one port worker was killed and another wounded.

“Three crew members, Filipino nationals, were injured and one of them was hospitalized,” the army said.

According to the Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Oleksandr Kubrakov, the ship was supposed to carry iron ore to China.

After the collapse of a UN-backed grain export deal in July, Moscow said any ship entering Ukrainian ports could be considered a potential military target.

Ukraine then announced the creation of a new “humanitarian corridor” – a sea route for civilian ships – to avoid international waters. However, Russia continued to attack Ukraine’s grain export ports and infrastructure.
