Jakarta –
A Miss World Australia finalist opened up about her battle with pancreatic cancer earlier this year. Before being sure to register in the beauty contest, a woman named Tirah Ciampa was ready to face death.
In February this year, Tirah was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and had already eaten half of her organ. “What’s crazy is that I lived for months on end with my pancreas functioning at 50 percent capacity,” Tirah told The Mercury.
Due to his cancer, his weight dropped from 58kg to 49kg. He suffered bouts of excruciating pain radiating through his stomach and back which he initially mistook for cramps until they got worse.
In March, Tirah underwent major eight-hour surgery at the Royal Hobart Hospital to remove the tumor and part of her pancreas. Tirah had even prepared for his death.
“I’ve been writing letters to my loved ones, sorting out my pension, cleaning out the laptop. I want to make sure my funeral will be paid for,” he admits.
“I’m ready to leave the world,” he added.
But four months later, after going through some dark times and preparing to die, the 27-year-old is now preparing to contest the Miss Australia title in the national final on the Gold Coast in August. Tirah admits that now she is cancer free.
Tirah would never be able to drink alcohol or play sports again, and she had a permanent lump on her spleen and a long scar that stretched from her upper chest to her navel. But he claims he’s not afraid to show it.
“Not afraid to show the wound in two bikinis later during the contest,” he said.
