Jakarta –
The Miss Universe drama isn’t over yet either. After allegations of sexual harassment at the Miss Universe Indonesia pageant, now the owner of Miss Universe Global is in debt. Jakkapong ‘Anne’ Jakrajutatip, a transgender owner of the JKN Global company which is the umbrella for Miss Universe, has a bond debt.
The company was unable to pay in full the 609.98 million baht or around Rp. 265 billion which was due last Friday. It is now trying to negotiate new payment terms.
Jakkaphong told the Stock Exchange of Thailand that the SET-listed company would pay 156.6 million baht – 146.62 million principal and 9.98 million interest – on Friday.
According to Jakkapong, the group plans to meet with note holders on September 29 to seek their approval of the delay. If they agree, late payment will not be considered a default as previously contracted.
Jakkapong expressed confidence that JKN would be able to make repayments under the new plan. The company has tried various ways to seek funding from its co-investors to prevent default but without success. The bad news from the company made JKN’s shares fall sharply.
Jakkapong acquired the Miss Universe Organization in October 2022 for IDR 311 billion. Born as a man, Jakkapong has made a name for himself in Thailand as the most successful transgender in his country.
He founded JKN Global Media in 2013. JKN then developed and acquired distribution rights for films and television programs in Thailand from Walt Disney Co., CBS Corp., and Sony Corp. JKN has also collaborated with CNBC for broadcasting for the next five years.
