Miss Montreal and her cover of the song Through the wind by Stef Bos is this year’s highest new entrant in Monuta’s annual list of funeral hits. The song, first performed in the program The best singersis in fourth place on the list for 2021. It is striking that Marco Borsato with the song There is no such thing as goodbye dropped out of the top 10 after years.

Monuta announced this today. Borsato has been under fire for a few months because of alleged sexually transgressive behaviour. A 22-year-old woman made a report of ‘lewd touching’ by the singer. In January, on the broadcast of Boos some former candidates and employees of The Voice of Holland the artist of unwanted touches. An investigation into the events is currently underway.

Evergreens
The top 3 of the funeral list consists of evergreens. In the first place it still stands Ave Maria in various versions. Silver is there for it Time to say goodbye by Andrea Bocelli and Sarah Brightman. Third place is for Frans Bauer with a train to no man’s land.

The only other new listing in the top 10 is Floating to happiness van Jannes, in place 9. The rest of the list consists of well-known funeral classics such as Rollercoaster from Danny Vera (5), Can I be with you then by Claudia de Breij (6) and We’ll meet again of Vera Lynn (7).

Besides Borsato, Mieke Telkamp is also with Where to for what out of the top 10. The song is still in the top 5 of the province of Overijssel. The list was compiled by Monuta on the basis of almost three thousand songs that were played at Dutch funerals in 2021.
