A 19-year-old transgender Brían Nguyen won the championship in a regional beauty pageant recently held in New Hampshire, USA. She is also the first transgender contestant in history to advance to the preliminary round of “Miss America”. However, the winner’s photo caused controversy after the exhibition.
According to CBS reports, Brían Nguyen, 19, is currently a freshman and is a transgender person, won the beauty pageant and became Miss Greater Derry in 2023. It is reported that the Miss Greater Derry pageant is a pageant of local beauty and is also the main part of the selection of the Miss America pageant.

Brían later posted a photo of herself being crowned on IG and announced that she had become the first transgender champion in the 100-year history of the ‘Miss America Pageant’. She said it was unimaginable to have the opportunity to be Miss New Hampshire and she is committed to serving the community in the coming year.
However, some netizens saw Brían’s photos and thought that she was slightly bloated, weighed more than 100 kilograms, and her appearance was not flattering. It was quite controversial to be selected as the champion. In fact, the Miss Greater Derry Scholarship Program was established in 1986 to provide scholarships to young women aged 17-24 living in the Greater Derry area for excellence in academic ability, talent , character, community service, and attendance outcomes.
