Thelma Rottoli, director of the Capital Sanitary Zone of the Ministry of Health of Misionesexplained that children from six months to three years should receive two doses of the vaccine one month apart.
“From the age of three the 3rd dose is enabled, it is important that three-year-olds who have already had two doses do the third with the Moderna vaccine, and from the age of five they start with the Pfizer boosters that are the vaccines approved for this age group,” he said.
In this way, the doctor explained that the Moderna vaccine is recommended for this age group of children who have pathologies that compromise immunity, receiving two doses if they are six months old and older, “but if they have any of these comorbidities they should already receive the third, it is not a contraindication, on the contrary, the child at risk or who has a basic pathology or disease that compromises their immune system should be vaccinated against Covid, ”he explained.

Regarding children who are going through an infectious process, the doctor recommended that they visit the professional in the area, because if the vaccine is applied, the body will not develop the necessary antibodies that are required and adverse symptoms will occur. However, she stressed that up to 5 years of age the immune system is developing, so it is important not to delay the process so much.
“The Moderna can be applied with all the vaccines on the calendar, it is not that you have to get one, wait and then the other, it can be done simultaneously, they can be applied on consecutive days, one day later or three days later, there is no no contraindication not to apply them together”, he stressed.

Currently, there is no knowledge about the new strains and their aggressiveness for the bodies, so “we are totally convinced that vaccination is a tool and is our best weapon against this virus that is here to stay, it is not going to go away.” , it will continue to mutate, new strains appearing, we have to be forewarned and when a higher percentage of the population is vaccinated, the less likely it is to cause serious illness”.
In this line, Rottoli emphasized the importance of vaccination also as a collective objective, the people who are vaccinated prevent the virus from entering: “This is called herd immunity, it is written biologically and scientifically, it is said that way because all the rest it protects that person who cannot be vaccinated”, he commented.
On the other hand, he mentioned that the vaccination campaign against Measles and Hepatitis B for adults was also started, since the objective is “to reduce viral circulation and protect the little ones who during their first year of life are receiving all the vaccines and they still cannot complete their defense system 100% so as not to get these diseases”, he highlighted.
