“Fortunately, it was not thrown into the dumpster …” This Tuesday afternoon, an agent from Val de Fensch stationed at the Hayange waste reception center noticed that a user left leaving a box at the edge of the quay. unloading. The employee is not at the end of his surprises. The box contains a 47 cm shell head.
After the discovery of the explosive device, around 3 p.m., the site of the Hayange recycling center was immediately evacuated and the access road, Saint-Jacques zone, closed to traffic. A security perimeter has been established. The police from the Thionville police station called in civil security deminers from Verdun. These specialists operated for nearly an hour to recover the shell.

A 7.7 caliber artillery shell head
The machine did not present any dangerousness in the state but it was indeed a German artillery shell head, caliber 7.7, dated from the First World War.
After the operation of the deminers, the police and agents of the waste reception center checked all the dumpsters without finding traces of other dangerous objects. A complaint will be filed by the agglomeration community, which manages the waste reception center.
This type of unusual discovery is not a first in the dumpsters community waste reception centers: a shell had already been spotted in Florange and, in Hayange, in 2007, a grenade from the Second World War.
The police recall that the good reflex in the event of accidental discovery of this type of explosive device remains not to handle it and to warn the authorities.
