Miscellaneous facts. Nine “stowaways” traveling by private jet arrested at Orly

Nine undocumented people traveling by private jet from Turkey were arrested Sunday at Paris Orly airport, according to the magazine Point.

The “stowaways”, claiming to be Kurds, were traveling on board an Austrian company plane. The Créteil public prosecutor’s office had opened an investigation, entrusted to the Orly border police (PAF).

According to Point, this investigation was opened for facts of assistance to the entry and the stay in France of these nine travelers, who “had to settle a minimum invoice of 30,000 euros” for this flight.

Under the terms of the Code of Entry and Residence of Foreigners and the Right to Asylum (Ceseda), an air transport company is punished with a fine of a maximum amount of 10,000 euros when it disembarks in the territory. French a non-national of a European Union State and without a travel document or visa required by law or the international agreement applicable to him.

“A first”

Migrants arriving in France aboard a private jet, “this is a first”, reacts Didier Leschi, director of the French Office for Immigration and Integration (OFII).

This does not “surprise” him, however, given the slowdown in migratory flows and the “limitation of air transport” due to the pandemic, which has caused the closure of the European Union’s external borders.
