“Miroslav Donutil’s Touching Tribute to his Father: From Strict Upbringing to Fishing Memories and Tragic Loss”

“Dad was strict, of course, mom always settled it when there was a conflict,” Miroslav Donutil recalled about his childhood in a ČT1 documentary. Although his father had harsher educational methods, the actor remembers the nice things, such as fishing, which they did together.

“My father taught me to fish and I am grateful to him for that. To this day, when I catch a big fish, whether it’s a catfish or a pike, I say: It’s for you, dad,” confided Donutil, moved.

The worst moment for him was when he learned the sad news that his father had died during filming.

Dad looked fabulous

“When I was filming one of the short stories for cycle 3 plus 1 called Vinaři in Moravia, my sister called me that my father had died. This is of course something that shakes you terribly,” Miroslav Donutil recalled the painful experience.

“I didn’t admit it at all, because dad looked wonderful, he was eighty years old and looked seventy, and suddenly you get this news,” the actor admitted that he didn’t expect his dad’s death at all and that it was a bigger blow for him.

“You’re still holding the phone to your ear and they’re already calling you: On the set! You have to shoot. So you go there and pretend that nothing happened and that everything is beautiful and cheerful. It really hit me hard,” added Donutil, who was saddened by the departure of the closest person balanced for a long time.

“A long time ago, I brought a twig with me and wished to grow a tree from it. It grew for a while and then suddenly withered. That’s when my father came, so I showed him the dry twig and he cut it. Today it has become this beautiful tree. It is like memorial willow,” the actor concluded with a touching story about his dad.
