Mirepoix students immersed in “an ocean of knowledge” at the Science Village

the essential As part of the 33rd Science Festival, students from Mirepoix college explored various scientific phenomena during their visit to the Science Village in Montgailhard.

Last week, as part of the 33rd Science Festival, the 4e1 and 4e5 of Mirepoix went to the Forges de Pyrène in Montgailhard to visit the Science Village. Supervised by Claire Carlier, Alain Bournet, Emmanuel Guillot and Marion Cardoso, and divided into groups of ten, the students navigated from one stand to another, exploring a wide range of scientific themes.

One of the highlights of the morning was the discovery of the mysterious Fontestorbes fountain, a captivating natural phenomenon for these curious young minds.

The middle school students were also greatly impressed by the Mars project developed by the STI2D classes at the Mirepoix high school, in partnership with the CNES, which took them on a Martian adventure. Some students even had the chance to pilot a robot on the red planet: “It was great, we even piloted a robot on Mars,” exclaims Hugo, enthusiastically.

The visit did not end there. The students also had the opportunity to delve into the mysteries of space in a planetarium where, lying under the celestial vault, they observed stars and constellations. “We learned a lot of things,” confides Romane, amazed by this stellar immersion.

The Science Village offered many other discoveries: the radio workshop, where middle school students were able to share their experiences live, and the discovery of migratory fish from Ariège, an opportunity to learn more about local biodiversity .

The robotics and mathematical games stands also captivated the attention of young visitors, stimulating both their logic and creativity. Finally, several students were able to observe the stars using telescopes provided, thus ending a morning full of learning.

After a well-deserved break, the students resumed their scientific adventure in the afternoon with a visit to the Forges de Pyrène museum. A great opportunity to delve into the industrial history of the region and admire the ancestral know-how of the blacksmiths.

This day was unanimously welcomed by the young participants, whose enthusiastic reactions reflect the importance of transmitting knowledge through concrete and immersive experiences. “It was great, we learned lots of things,” the schoolchildren agree, already impatient to relive such an adventure.

A beautiful tribute to the theme of this 2024 edition of the Science Festival: “An ocean of knowledge”, which, through this visit, was able to awaken vocations and fuel the thirst for discovery among the students of the Mirepoix college.
