Mirande celebrates science with a month dedicated to water conservation

the essential Exhibitions, eco-friendly workshops and film screenings mark the start of events on the water, organized by the Mirande media library throughout October.

Throughout the month of October, to celebrate science, the Mirande media library is offering a focus on water, this precious commodity which is becoming rarer. Between exhibitions by departmental authorities, works on the theme, then an afternoon with an eco-gestures workshop and documentary film, this program introduces a series of events which will take place from January to June 2025, meetings hosted by the CPIE Pays Gersois, in partnership with the Astarac cinema, SAGE Neste and Rivières de Gascogne, as well as the various local stakeholders in terms of water.

Scientists around the world sounded the alarm years ago! The point of no return has almost been reached, and the world’s resources are reaching exhaustion… Hence the importance of being informed and trying to reduce our environmental impact.

Two events are planned for this Wednesday, October 23 in Mirande. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Le Colisée media library, the CPIE will host a workshop allowing you to test your eco-responsible habits and take on eco-friendly challenges.

Then at 8 p.m., at the Astarac cinema, the film “The Peat Watcher” will be broadcast and will allow you to discover the commitment of Jean-Michel Parde, a convinced environmentalist. The scientist is trying to save the wetlands and moors of the Lannemezan plateau. With the environmental association Action research environment Midi-Pyrénées (Aremip), they are meeting residents to convince them of the usefulness of these places which are still too often the subject of construction and multiple uses. “These abandoned lands, with Gascon place names, are full of stories of witches and marginal beings, which go back, according to specialists, to the dawn of time. With the seasons, we enter this world of the last marshes , populated by birds and wild animals, with soils swollen with water, on which very particular plants such as sphagnum moss or sundews grow. The marsh then delivers its life lesson.

Access to the media library is free, subject to availability. Entrance to the cinema will be at the usual price. For any further information: [email protected] or 05 62 05 15 70.
