Miraculous Survival: 12-Year-Old Boy Falls on NYC Subway Tracks and Escapes Unharmed

A 12-year-old boy miraculously survived after falling in front of a New York City Subway train entering a station in Brooklyn. yesterday morning.

Exactly how the boy fell is still being investigated, but he managed to avoid being run over when An L train approaching the Metropolitan Avenue-Lorimer Street station around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, he said Fox News.

An MTA official said that The train operator saw what was happening and hit the brakes. when the train entered the station. Apparently the boy positioned himself so that a car passed over him before the train came to a complete stopsuffering only minor injuries, reported ABC News.

It was smart that he knew how to hide to the side because I don’t think most people know that there is that space where you can hide, if unfortunately you fall or get pushed,” said Eric Brady, a Metro user.

Not all stations have that kind of space under the platform to hide. The fear of falling or being pushed onto the tracks is something many passengers share.

According to the MTA, on average More than 75 people die on Metro tracks every year and so they are testing metal fencing – now installed at only two stations – to add an extra layer of fall protection. “We are listening to users, they feel safer. Let’s put it to the test and see if it works,” said NYC Transit President Richard Davey.

Collisions of New York Subway trains with people on platforms and rails have experienced an alarming increase of 25% in four years (2018-2022), according to data from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) released in April.
