Miraculous Reunion: Cat Travels Over 800 Miles, Reunited with Owner After Months

ROSEVILLE — A remarkable series of events led to the reunion of a cat with its owner, after the pet undertook an extraordinary journey of survival. On July 1, a vigilant hospital worker stumbled upon a distressed cat near a drainage ditch while entering Sutter Roseville Hospital, prompting her to take immediate action.

Concerned Bystander Comes to the Rescue

Alex Bitts, an animal lover, heard a cat’s anguished yowling. “Cats generally don’t yowl like that unless something is wrong,” Bitts remarked. Upon discovering the feline barely clinging to life in a small cement tunnel, she knew she had to help.

Realizing the urgency of the situation, Bitts quickly ordered canned cat food via DoorDash, along with a fresh cup of water. “As soon as I opened that first can, he poked his head up. He recognized the sound, so that indicated to me that he was a pet,” she recounted.

A Journey to Safety

The next day, Bitts returned with more supplies, including a dog kennel. After a determined effort, she managed to safely contain the cat and brought it home for care before ultimately taking it to the Placer SPCA in Roseville.

The Owner’s Heartbreaking Loss

Unbeknownst to Bitts, the cat had an owner desperately searching for him for nearly a month. Susanne and Ben Anguiano had been camping in Yellowstone National Park in June with their beloved cat, Rayne Beau, named for his rainbow-like coloring. During a transfer from their truck to their camper, Rayne Beau escaped into the wilderness, prompting an intensive search.

After five arduous days with no sign of their pet, the couple reluctantly returned home to Salinas, California, feeling as though they had abandoned their beloved cat. “I felt like I was abandoning him,” Susanne expressed, heartbroken.

The Touch of Fate

After being surrendered to the SPCA, Rayne Beau was scanned for a microchip, leading to an unbelievable revelation: the cat was registered to Susanne Anguiano. “I still didn’t believe it. I was just so overwhelmed that this could be true,” she said, still in disbelief that her beloved pet had journeyed so far from Yellowstone.

The couple’s theory is that Rayne Beau managed to hitch a ride, possibly finding his way into a vehicle that took him to Roseville. “A miracle. God placed these signs. As we look back, all of the signs were there,” Ben remarked about the coincidental reunion.

The Importance of Microchipping

Officials at Placer SPCA reiterated the significance of microchipping pets, stating that miracles like Rayne Beau’s homecoming would not be possible without such identification. They offer microchipping services for a nominal fee of just $15, underscoring the message that safeguarding pets can lead to astonishing outcomes.
