24 weeks pregnant after beating cancer
16 years ago, the patient was diagnosed with Hodgkin lymphoma. Anticipating the impact of chemotherapy and radiotherapy on her fertility, she opted in 2013 for cryopreservation of tissue from the ovarian cortex (the outer layer of the ovaries).
In 2021, after fully recovering, the patient underwent ovarian cortex transplantation, with the aim of restoring fertility.
Later, she underwent various fertility treatments, and in October 2023 the embryo transfer took place with two embryos at the blastocyst stage.
The 39-year-old is currently 24 weeks pregnant.
Ovarian cortex transplantation took place at Genesis Athens Clinic, together with a distinguished team from Oslo University Hospital in Norway.
The procedure was broadcast live online to 13 public hospitals in Greece, allowing other medical professionals to assist and learn how to perform such a complex procedure.
