According to Gulevich, the SOF forces are deployed “in three tactical directions” to “ensure the security of the Republic of Belarus in the southern direction.”
The reason for this deployment is that the Armed Forces of Ukraine allegedly created a grouping with a total number of up to 20,000 people in this direction.
The main part of the statement of the Chief of the General Staff of Belarus is devoted to “a set of measures aimed at countering possible threats,” which refers to the allegedly growing threats from the NATO countries. In particular, they mention “the appearance in the Mediterranean and Baltic Seas of a group carrying sea- and air-based cruise missiles, an increase in an aviation group in the countries of Poland and the Baltic States”, which “indicates a growing threat to the Republic of Belarus.”
- May 4 Ministry of Defense of Belarus stated about the “sudden check” of the Belarusian reaction forces.
- May 5, Advisor to the Head of the Presidential Office Alexey Arestovich saidthat hostilities on the border with Belarus are possible only if the Belarusian army crosses the border or directly opens fire on the Ukrainians.
