Minsalud explains why bars will not sell liquor

Controversy continues in Colombia over the reopening of bars, but without liquor sales. The government insisted on its reasons.

“The vast majority of bars in our country are gastro-bars that are also selling food. So the pilot starts there and obviously as we reactivate we also hope gradually and -obviously observing the experiences of other countries- to be able to free up the sale of liquor. For now we do not have it, “said President Iván Duque.

The Minister of Health, Fernando Ruiz, added: “Given the affectation that these types of establishments have, we have been making a responsible reopening where – as we all know – liquor is one of the aspects that most reduces social inhibition and we are closer “.

Besides the prohibition on the sale of liquor, the bars will have to be very careful in the capacity, the distances and the articulation with the other services to avoid sources of contagion.
