Minsal’s head of epidemiology, christian garciapointed out this Friday to what’s left of the day from Cooperative that a possible modification of the frequency of application of the bivalent vaccine against Covid-19 – currently annual – will be evaluated “on merit”.
The dose has both the original Wuhan strain and the omicron variant, thus providing greater protection against the virus currently circulating.
“Of course, this is under constant evaluation. It will be evaluated on the merits, according to the world scenario, according to the opinion of the expert committees, the advisory committee on vaccines, the frequency. For now, we’ll keep it annual.”Garcia said.
So far, people who can get the bivalent vaccine are only healthcare personnel, over 60, immunocompromised and chronically ill.
“For now, these vaccines are only targeted at the highest-risk groups. Why? Because until the second reinforcement what has been demonstrated is that after several months there is still a good protection against serious cases and deaths”, defended the head of epidemiology.

This morning the Ministry of Health announced that, with a deadline of yesterday, Thursday, they administered 1,124,027 doses of the annual vaccine against Covid-19corresponds to 19.61% coverage of the target population estimated at 5,732,092 people.
Of the total doses administered, 201,013 are healthcare workers (44.54% coverage), 59,147 people with chronic diseases (3.52% coverage) and 863,867 elderly (24.01% coverage).
Regarding the primary vaccination programs against SARS-CoV-2, which considers a target population of 15,200,840 people aged 18 and over, 94.29% (14,332,757) completed their vaccination.
