With the support of the Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO Peru), the Ministry of Health (Minsa) began preparations for the national vaccination against measles next September.
Before this, the Directorate of Vaccination was the Minsa held a workshop in which experts in vaccination, epidemiology, health promotion, statistics and communication participated of regional health management and directorates across the country.
The purpose is to train health workers (related to vaccination) to effectively implement vaccination strategies and increase the number of children protected against disease that.
The Deputy Minister of Public Health, Ricardo Peña Sánchez, led the workshop and highlighted that One of Minsa’s priorities is to avoid a new outbreak of measles by vaccinating children under the age of 5. He said that vaccination work requires participation from different health areas.
“The country’s vaccination process is not just about coverage, it involves multidisciplinary work that includes epidemiological investigation, monitoring and timely response to disasters. We are talking about an integrated response in which experts in vaccination, statistics, health promotion and communication participate,” said the former minister.
For his part, Magdalena Quepuy Izarra, executive director of Immunization, said the goal is to protect more than 2.8 million children from measles..
“We don’t want more vaccine-preventable diseases.” A commitment from all authorities is needed for the national measles vaccine. We need to coordinate with all possible departments to achieve the vaccination goal,” Quepuy said.
At another time, Deputy Minister Ricardo Peña pointed out that in the next Intergovernmental Health Commission (CIGS), which will be held on August 8 and 9 in Ucayali, regional governors will be asked to promote the national vaccination sweep and more to engage in vaccination activities in their jurisdiction.
