“Minsa Rules Out Accredited Vaccines for Dengue Despite Rising Cases in Peru”

Lima, May 11 (Sputnik).- The Peruvian Ministry of Health (Minsa) ruled out this Thursday the application of vaccines against dengue, a disease that is increasing in the country, because they are not accredited by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).

“Peru has the best vaccination scheme, we have the safest vaccines to prevent diseases. In this scenario, we have considered it in the budget issue, but PAHO has not yet accredited the vaccine so that we can incorporate it, “said the head of the Minsa, Rosa Gutiérrez, at a press conference.

The day before, the Minsa declared a state of health emergency in 20 departments, out of the 24 that exist, due to an increase in dengue cases.

Likewise, the Government allocated a budget of 9.5 million dollars to deal with the emergency.

According to the National Center for Epidemiology, Disease Prevention and Control, to date Peru has registered 69,534 cases of dengue and 72 deaths this year. (Sputnik)
