The Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported that from January 1 to 3 it is holding the Vacunafest Cierratón, a mass vaccination day against the coronavirus (COVID-19) in Lima and Callao that seeks to close gaps and accelerate immunization at the national level before the presence of the Omicron variant in the country.
According to the Health sector, until December 30, 156 cases of the Omicron variant were reported, identified in Lima and Callao, Piura and in Chimbote (Áncash).
WHO IS THE VACCINATION CLOSURE AIMED AT?
- People 12 years of age and older who require their first dose.
- People requiring their second dose.
- People 18 years of age and older who require their booster dose (who received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least 3 months ago).
- Laggards of other ages who require first and second doses.
- People with a risk factor or comorbidity.

VACCINATION PROGRESS IN PERU
Peru exceeded 80% coverage of the target population vaccinated against COVID-19 with the two doses before the end of 2021. These are people over 12 years of age who have been inoculated nationally.
It is about 80.4% of the target population already has a complete vaccination. From La Videna in San Luis, President Pedro Castillo, who received his third dose against COVID-19, confirmed the objective reached by the Government on Friday the 31st, before the end of the year.
“Today I announce to the country that we have reached 80% of the target population enlivened with the two doses. A percentage that few believed possible a few months ago […] Today our country has more than 21 million people with their complete protection. We have reached an important national goal “, he remarked.
