Minsa Bureaucracy Hinders Blood Donation Process, Putting Patients at Risk

From letters from our readers we have verified that the bureaucracy of the Ministry of Health (Minsa) does not think about patients but rather meets unnecessary requirements when it comes to donating blood for patients.

These cases have occurred, for example, at the Dos de Mayo Hospital, where donors were kicked out of the hospital for the sole reason of not having renewed their ID.

Nowhere in the requirements is it stated that it is mandatory to have renewed the DNI, and if they did so in writing, they would be committing a mistake.

Furthermore, there are patients who have only a single family member capable of donating, it is illogical that they are prevented from doing so due to a bureaucratic issue with their ID.

What would happen if a disaster happened and people came to donate blood and were turned away because of this fact?

The only impediments to donating are strictly health ones, to take care of the quality of the blood that will be received, which is why the absurdity of the requirement to renew an ID to donate is not understood.

Furthermore, does the identity of the donor matter so much and not their blood type and whether they are suitable to donate?

And if someone asks to donate anonymously, why should they be prevented? You should have the right to keep your identity confidential.

The Minsa bureaucracy should be there to facilitate health actions, not hinder them. Is the minister aware of this?
